SCCA Trophy Cabinet 2009 - 2010South Canterbury Cricket's end-of-season individual awards for 2009-10 were presented on April 15th at a function at sponsors the Speights Ale House. A large crowd of players, parents, life members and supporters were in attendance to listen to MC Julian Blanchard oversee the evening with Bob Carter, Canterbury Cricket Coach in attendance as Guest Speaker. Julian ran the evening with his usual precision, and again showed he had done his research as well as showing his comic talents by pulling out the chairman's season batting average (while failing to mention his own), as well as setting up the guest speaker to answer some questions that were especially relevant to South Canterbury players. Andrew MacRae, the chairman of South Canterbury Cricket spoke with enthusiasm about the 2009/2010 season and went on to acknowledge all the various prize winners, cricketing people, players, administrators, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who combine to keep the game prominent locally. He made special mention of the successful return of top class cricket to South Canterbury with the One Day and Twenty20 matches played at Aorangi Oval. Andrew also was able to follow up on the previous season's announcement by presenting South Canterbury cricket stalwart Harvey King with his ICC gold medal on behalf of the local cricketers after Harvey had earlier had the honour of receiving his medal during the Australia vs NZ Twenty20 International held in Christchurch. Bob Carter's speech was an interesting mix of anecdotes and memories from his time as assistant coach of New Zealand under John Bracewell, as well as his thoughts about fitness requirements for the modern day player. He also included some videos and a slideshow showing some of the humourous and great things he had seen in his time and finished with a question and answer session that was also very informative.
