SCCA Trophy Cabinet 2010 - 2011

South
Canterbury Cricket's end-of-season individual awards for 2010-11 were
presented on April 13th at a function at sponsors the Speights Ale
House. A large crowd of players, parents, life members and supporters
were in attendance to listen to MC Julian Blanchard oversee the evening
with "local boy made good" Hamish Bennett, the NZ Opening Bowler in
attendance as Guest Speaker.
Julian ran the evening with his usual political 'incorrectness' verbally jousting with the large Waimate contingent in attendance.
Andrew MacRae, the Chairman of South Canterbury
Cricket spoke with enthusiasm about the 2010/2011 season and especially our underage representative teams who had a stellar season of results, a fact shown by the number of junior players who achieved higher representative honours. He also acknowledged the various prize winners, cricketing people,
players, administrators, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who combine
to keep the game prominent locally.
During his speech Andrew also made a special presentation to our "retired" CEO Graeme Broker giving him a framed picture of a first class game played at Aorangi Oval this season (and which Graeme appears in) and thanked him for his valued service after turning a short innings (4 months initially) into a much longer one holding up his end for 4 years. He also welcomed the new CEO Dave Fisher to the SCCA.

Lee Germon, CEO of Canterbury Cricket also spoke and complimented South Canterbury on their cricket both on and off the field, outlining some parts of the Canterbury and NZ strategic plans that South Canterbury are ahead of the game on and urging people to support 'our game'.
Hamish Bennett spoke in a question and answer session with Julian and talked about how it was difficult to appreciate being surrounded by armed bodyguards after the quietness of Stafford St, Timaru during the recent World Cup in India and stressed that at the end of the day you have to do the hard work and be in a position to take advantage when the opportunities come along. He fielded a couple of questions from the audience as well.
