Canterbury Country have proved too strong for South Canterbury in an emerging players clash at Aorangi Oval.
The visitors won by 40 runs on a flat Aorangi Oval deck.
It was the same pitch used for the double header in club cricket at the weekend
Canterbury Country started really well with openers Toby Doyle and Joe Williams putting on a strong opening partnership.
Doyle played a number of cracking shots around the ground and raced to 78 in no time.
Williams also scored at a good clip, making 54, with a number of elegant off side shots.
They put on 144 for the first wicket, before Williams missed a delivery from spinner Jacob Naylor.
Fellow off spinner Phil Lill picked up Doyle a short time after, when he walked past one.
Tim Harrison, batting at first drop, played some creative shots in his 46.
The rest of the order chipped in with a number of starts as they made 272 from their 50 overs.
Pleasant Point’s Brad Tegelaars was the best of the South Canterbury bowlers with four wickets.
Naylor also bowled well to chip in with two wickets.
In reply, South Canterbury lost an early wicket with Willie Stone out for 7.
Jacob Naylor made 27 in no time before he had to retire due to work commitments.
Naylor hit five fours, all of them sweet shots through the off side.
Sam Porter survived a couple of chances in making 34, including one lusty blow that comfortably made the oval’s bank.
After a scratchy start Adam Fahey played some cracking shots in his innings of 25, before he was bowled.
Daniel Campbell wasted no time in making 20, with two sixes and two fours.
Adam Beck, batting at five, made 46 with some cracking shots through the off and leg side.
He chopped one on off Mitch Ross, a former New Zealand under-19 spinner.
Phil Lill smashed 32 and Cameron Lundie scored 11.
Ross picked up three wickets and Joe Williams claimed two.
South Canterbury’s chase ended on 231.
