Ben Watson was in superb form on Saturday as he took seven wickets for Celtic against Timaru and backed that up with four for South Canterbury the following day.
In the latest round of the South Canterbury one-day competition, Celtic secured a massive win over Timaru and Temuka remained unbeaten.
In the top-of-the-table clash at Pleasant Point, Temuka snuck home by one-wicket thanks to an unbeaten 72 from allrounder Warren Morgan.
In form batsman Phil Lill hit 45 as Temuka slumped to 31-4, but managed to chase down the required 174 need to win.
Temuka’s number 11 Nick Maguire hit six not out, including the winning runs.
Point seamer George McDougall was the best with the ball chipping in with four wickets.
Point, who were in real strife at 24-5 were rescued by the left handed Will Harvey, who hit 96, before falling one shot shy of an outstanding 100.
Tom Costley hit 20 and Stan Mair 16 not out as they made a respectable total.
Dinesh de Silva was superb grabbing four wickets, while Glen Drake claimed two.
Celtic bagged their first win of the season with an impressive showing against Timaru at Anzac Square, after it was forced to move the match from Celtic Sports Ground due to flooding.
The defending champions smashed Timaru by 300 runs.
Batting first they made an enormous 365-5 thanks to 95 from Carlaw, Dan Laming’s 94 and a hard hit 67 by Nigel Caple.
It was an imposing total from Celtic, which forced Timaru to attack from ball one, an outcome which did not work.
They fell for a paltry 65 with Watson nabbing 7-15 in a superb spell of bowling.
It could be the win Celtic needed to kick start their season after a couple of early losses.
