Johnny Geddis scored 79no for Temuka
Roncalli/Celtic caused the biggest upset in senior club cricket this season by beating defending one- day champions Celtic by 44 runs at Ashbury 6 on Saturday.
It was a massive form reversal from the side which had been skittled for 39 when the two teams met earlier in the season.
Debutante James Ellwood led the way for the home team with an impressive 78.
The Englishman toiled hard early and then cut loose in the later overs on a pitch which was on the slow side and made shot making difficult early in the innings.
In the other matches, an unbeaten 79 from Temuka’s Johnny Geddis and six wickets from veteran seamer Kevin Teahen helped the Magpies to a 144-run win over Waimate at Knottingley Park.
Timaru cruised past Star by seven wickets at Mountainview High School thanks to an unbeaten 79-run stand between Zane Sanders (44) and Prabodha Arthavidu (43).
Roncalli/Celtic batted with composure against a Celtic side missing Dan Laming and Jacob Naylor.
With Ellwood anchoring the innings, Will Watts (24) offered top- order support before the middle and lower-order batted around the established batsman.
Ben Watson and Tom Pavletich were the pick of the Celtic bowlers taking three wickets each, though Roncalli had established a good early platform to be able to score at better than a run-a-ball from overs 30 to 40.
Celtic’s run chase lacked the key partnership that so often got them out of trouble.
Former Canterbury age-group player Gerrit Roux (60) tried to hold the innings together.
However, when his terrific debut effort came to an end so did Celtic’s chances of victory.

Teahen’s nagging line and length had the Waimate batsmen totally confused. The home team lasted just 17 overs before being bowled out for 69.
Scott Willoughby (29), Jason Sew Hoy 19 and Murray Prattley (10) were the only batsmen to make double figures.
Timaru looked to have let Star off the hook with the ball in its match.
The visitors had Star 62 for five before a gritty 51 from Richard Hickson and 38 from Hamish Dickson saw Star scramble to a competitive total of 164.
Timaru shared the wickets among their six bowlers with wicketkeeper Josh Smallridge taking five catches.
Solid contributions from the top five batsmen saw Timaru cruise to the target with 12 overs to spare.
