Nigel Jones

Nigel Jones

Former South Canterbury player and ex-Geraldine lad Nigel Jones has been playing for Ireland during the recent T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and left the tournament without having been dismissed in their two official matches, both with scores of 14* against Australia and the West Indies.

Quickly rising through the ranks, Nigel was playing in the Geraldine senior men’s team before his 14th birthday. He rattles off teammates names such as Robin Heron, Craig and Hamish Drennan, Hogget Cain and Matt Morrison.

Nigel describes himself in those days as “a batsman who bowled”. He was good enough to play representative cricket and in 1998–99 Nigel was a member of the South Canterbury men’s team that won the coveted Hawke Cup. He has played for Ireland for the last 4 years.
