While winter coaching is already in full swing, we also have the opportunity to run pre-season umpiring and scoring courses that will help people understand or keep up with the rules (which seem to change from season to season). This course may be handy for team managers and coaches at all levels as well as supporters helping their kids and called upon to umpire or any players who may be interested in furthering their knowledge.
We have not set specific days or times for these courses as yet, and will determine these according to the level of interest.
SCCA would appreciate you informing all your club members, parents and supporters and if anyone is keen ask them to contact the office before September 19th and we can get back to those participants who are keen about the most suitable times to hold the courses.
Overview of Course
The training modules produced for the New Zealand Cricket Umpires & Scorers Association (NZCUSA) have been approved by NZC for use in all grades of cricket played in New Zealand.
These courses will be conducted in the Graeme Blanchard Centre in an informal environment permitting a full interchange of ideas and comments.
Level 1:
Is targeted to Junior school cricketers (up to 12 years of age), their parents and coaches etc. Prior playing experience and/or knowledge of cricket is not required.
Two booklets will be offered:
- Cricket Umpiring – getting started.
- Cricket Scoring – getting started.
The Level 1 examination may be taken following the 2-Power Point modules and the NZC/NZCUSA certificate will be produced for those successful.
Dates: TBA
Course: 2 classes of approximately 1 1/2 hours each.
Level 2:
Is targeted to senior school and club cricketers, and their coaches etc who should have some prior playing and knowledge of cricket.
Two booklets will be offered:
- The Player Umpires Companion.
- Cricket Scoring – getting started.
The Level 2 examination may be taken following the 3-Power Point modules and the NZC/NZCUSA certificate will be produced for those successful.

Course: 3 classes of approximately 1 1/2 hours each
