At the recent AGM of the South Canterbury District Cricket Association, Chairman David Fisher had the pleasure of appointing two new Life Members.
The appointments were John Threlkeld and Chris Galwey, two stalwarts of cricket in South Canterbury and deserving recipients of this honour.

36 years involvement with SC Club Cricket after moving here in 1980 from North Canterbury
Describing himself as a “pretty average all-rounder” during his playing days, a willingness to stay involved in the game made him become an umpire 26 years ago.
Threlkeld said his proudest moment in cricket was his involvement with junior cricket, when he was coach of the South Canterbury team which won the South Island primary school tournament in 1996, 1997 and 2006
Former Black Cap Craig Cumming and former Otago representative Jordan Shead were coached by Threlkeld during their early years. He said watching young players improve their technique and grow as players was the most enjoyable part of coaching.

Chris Galwey
A Fairlie boy who travelled and played for Timaru as a teen and would go on to become a South Canterbury Rep, Canterbury Brabin Rep, and Wellington Rep.
Coached SC Primary Boys a number of times over the years (and still at it this season).
He kept the Mackenzie club from Fairlie going and was involved with combined Geraldine sides as well as TBHS 1st XI travelling to Chch – so it is obvious he must like travelling!
Has coached at Timaru as well and often run private one-on-one training for juniors and teens over numerous years and is a Life Member of the Timaru Cricket Club and to this day is still regularly seen at senior and rep matches across all grades.
