sccricket-logo-grnThe South Canterbury Primary A team for 2013 got off to an outstanding start with a convincing win over North Otago.

South Canterbury batted first and got off to a good start with Ed Heenan (7) and Ben Davenport (43) putting on 34 for the first wicket.  This allowed William Sharp (67) and Gabriel Evans (81 not out) to play freely and the runs just flowed.

Ben Thomson (23) and James Arscott (29 not out) came out and hit the ball hard which ensured South Canterbury made an imposing 292 for 5 declared.

South Canterbury then bowled and fielded superbly and with wickets falling at a regular rate meant captain Ben Thomson could set very attacking fields to clean up the tail.

All the south Canterbury bowlers contributed with Charlie Martin, Harrison Darling and Ted Grigg claiming two wickets each to have North Otago all out for 75.

An excellent start to the new season for this team and features of this game included their running between the wickets and their ground fielding. South Canterbury now take on Dunedin Metro next weekend in Dunedin.
