Zane Sanders took 6-48 to lead Timaru to outright victory

The bowlers had the better of day two of the latest round of senior two-day cricket.

Timaru all-rounder Zane Sanders spun his way to six for 48 to help his team to a 10-wicket win over Star at Mountainview High School.

A crucial 44 and four wickets from Liam Beck helped Roncalli/Celtic to overturn a first innings deficit for a 29-run win over Waimate who fell short despite 71 and five wickets from Simon Murphy.

Waimate were rolled for just 85 in the run chase with Will Watts also taking three wickets. Temuka and Celtic played out a draw at Temuka Oval.

After heavy rain on Friday the Star pitch, which was uncovered, took some time to dry out which was bad news for the home team which was already following on.

Spin was the order of the day, with Sanders creating a number of close leg before wicket shouts.

Wickets fell at regular intervals with Daniel Campbell’s innings of 25 the only knock of substance, while Terry McErlain bullied some balls to the boundary in a quick-fire 28.

Star’s effort of 135 made Timaru chase a meagre 26 which the openers got in eight overs.

Waimate’s frail batting was exposed again against Roncalli/Celtic.

They completely dropped their bundle chasing 125 to win after being in a dominant position after the opening day.
