On Sunday 6 December the Primary A boys team took on Mid Canterbury at the Ashburton Domain.

Overnight rain saw the match transferred to an artificial pitch and reduced to a 45/45 over affair.

South Canterbury won the toss and invited Mid Canterbury to bat.

From the outset the bowling was tight and probing, which continued to be the theme for the duration of the innings – With Mid Canterbury finishing up at 135 for 6.

The best of the bowlers were Liam Andrews with 2 wickets for 22 runs off 9 overs and Taine Cordell-Hull with 2 wickets for 24 off 8 overs.

Enthusiastic and focussed fielding supported the bowling efforts throughout the opposition innings.

The South Canterbury chase got off to a good solid start with Celtic club team mates Will Davenport and Hayden Kerr bringing up the 50 in the 19th over.

Both were retired soon after at the 20 over mark with the score on 63 – Davenport having made 40 and Kerr 15.

What followed was somewhat of a collapse as 7 wickets then fell for only 34 runs – With only Archie Batchelor’s 19 registering any real resistance.

But then the number 10 and 11 batsmen, Taine Cordell-Hull and James Martin set themselves and took the score from 97 to the 136 target with 4 balls to spare, to register a good old fashioned gutsy win by 3 wickets.
