Michael Hogan 67 retired

This match began with great intentions, but with a few of the U19 players promoted to the South Canterbury Senior XI on the day and other commitments interfering, both teams took the park with support from each other.

It was a worthwhile contest for the coaches as they were able to again watch their players in a match situation.

Highlights included Michael Hogan’s 67 retired off 56 balls, Adam Fahey’s more sedate 50 not out off 97 balls and Scott Willoughby’s 42 off 31 balls for the U19s. The opening partnership of 115 between Hogan and Willoughby certainly set the U19s up for a good total, eventually making 218-4 off their 40 overs.

Brett Walker bowled tightly for the U17s with 5 overs 2 maidens 1 wicket for 17 runs, while Josh Mehrtens, Matt McKenzie and Henry Race all picked up a wicket each.

In reply the U17 team were always under the hammer but Lawrence Darling led the way, top-scoring with 31, while Jamie Trezise 25 not out  and Liam Beck 29 not out in his second bat both had good innings. The U17s eventually making 133.

For the U19s Alex McDuff finished with 2-17 and Jacob O’Connor picked up 2-29 to be the leading bowlers.
