Jim had a long association with cricket in South Canterbury and had been the Patron since 1986. He was also Patron of the Umpires Association from 1972 – 1975 and a Senior Men’s Selector from 1965 – 1969 as well as busy in all those unheralded tasks.

As a player he also represented South Canterbury over many seasons. The photo on the right shows him in a Richards Trophy winning team in 1962, and other records show he was still scoring runs in a Hawke Cup fixture against North Otago in 1970.

Jim had a long association with his club Star of which he was a Life Member. He was first associated with Star in 1953 and he was Captain of the Tweedy Cup winning team in 1970-71 and a member of the 1977-78 winning team and played well into the 1980’s.

South Canterbury Cricket realise this is just a small token of our gratitude towards Jim for all the work he has put into cricket in our region and wish to pass along our condolences to his wife Jill and his family.

Rest in Peace.
