South Canterbury Primary A team took on Canterbury Country at Greendale Domain in there first warm up game leading into January’s South Island tournament yesterday.

South Canterbury won the toss and bowled first on an artificial wicket, South Canterbury bowlers kept a good line although too often bowled too short which the Canterbury Country batsmen hit away as they got to 183.

Best bowlers for South Canterbury were James Arscot with 4/27 off 12 overs and Shaun Rooney 2/29 off 9.

South Canterbury then lost four early wickets in their run chase before two good partnerships between Tim Hepburn 30 and Cullen Grace 45 then Grace and Matt Cochrane-Bennett 6 had Sth Canty at 100 for 5 going into the last 20 overs. Unfortunately wickets fell regularly in the last twenty overs and South Canterbury finished on 135.

A very pleasing start to their season with the ground fielding being excellent and Gabriel Evans nabbing four catches in the outfield.

South Canterbury now take on Mid Canterbury this Sunday in Ashburton.
