The South Canterbury U19s made the most of home advantage repelling the northern marauders (Mid Canterbury) as they chased down the target with 3 wickets to spare.

It wasn’t perfect, but definitely a positive start to the tournament and after a bye round today the boys head to Christchurch for their final 3 matches against the 2 Metro sides and the Canterbury Country XI.

Sth Canty’s unbeaten run comes to an end

South Canterbury’s unbeaten run at the Canterbury under-19 regional cricket tournament has come to a crushing end after a nine-wicket defeat to Christchurch Metro Red yesterday.

After wins over Mid Canterbury and Christchurch Metro Black, the batsmen failed to fire yesterday as the visitors were bundled out for just 105.

Scott Willoughby tried to hold the innings together with an unbeaten 55, but sadly he had little support, as Michael Hogan’s run-a-ball 28 was the only other score in double figures.

South Canterbury were in reasonable shape at 40-1 but were guilty of trying to play off the back-foot too often, particularly to the slower bowlers.

While South Canterbury grabbed an early wicket, they were unable to make the inroads needed to make the game a contest. Christchurch Metro Red cruised to the target with 24 overs to spare.

South Canterbury will play Canterbury Country in their final game today.
