South Canterbury Primary A team played Mid Canterbury in there annual clash with Mid Canterbury winning the toss and batting first.

South Canterbury bowlers Gabriel Evans, Ben Aicken, Shuan Rooney and James Arscot all bowled well and claimed a couple of wickets each to restrict Mid Canterbury to 102 all out on a very slow outfield.

In reply South Canterbury batsmen Rooney 23, Gabriel Evans 18 and Cullen Grace 13 all got starts but couldn’t keep going to get the big score needed and South Canterbury were bowled out for 90.

A disappointing batting performance after they had the game well under control at 80 for 4.

South Canterbury’s next game will be against CHCH Metro on Dec 9th.

South Canterbury Primary Development

The South Canterbury Primary Development team travelled to Ashburton to take on Mid Canterbury on Sunday. Mid Canterbury won the toss and put South Canterbury in to bat on a pitch that could only be described as bad. Up and down bounce combined with accurate bowling and excellent fielding/catching saw South Canterbury dismissed for 48 runs. Only Todd Phillips with 14 runs managed to survive for any period of time.

Mid Canterbury also struggled to score runs taking 23 overs to get the required total for victory. South Canterbury bowled and fielded very well to their credit. Cullen Towler with 2 for 7 was the pick of the bowlers while Charlie Martin, Eamon Bolton, Ben Stayt and Ed Heenan all got 1 wicket each.

South Canterbury Primary YR 5 & 6

The South Canterbury Year 6 team had a very good win in there first game up versus Mid Canterbury.

South Canterbury batting first made a good start with Luka Foy 16 and Ben Davenport 62 getting the team through to 46 before Foy was out which bought Harrison Darling in and together with Davenport added 113 for the third wicket with Darling making 54 as South Canterbury finished there 40 overs on 178 for 8.

Mid Canterbury made a good start in their run chase with the second wicket falling at 56 but the South Canterbury bowlers performed very well and finished Mid Canterbury off for 110.

Nick Goodwin bowled very tightly with 1/12 off 6 overs, Ryan Lewthwaite 2/6 off 3 overs,  George Coupland 2/7 off 5 overs and Darling 3/26 off 8.

South Canterbury’s next game will be versus CHCH Metro on Dec 9th.
