Day One Report – Winning start for Yr 6 cricketers

Chch Metro batted first scoring 110-7 off their 40 overs with Nick Goodwin leading the attack for South Canterbury taking 2 wickets while the rest of the spoils were shared.

Coach Ants de Joux was really impressed with the fielding saying “the boys took 6 amazing catches and Harper McKerrow took 3 of them”.

In reply South Canterbury were in trouble early struggling to 30-4 off the first 12 overs but then a 35 run partnership between top-scorer, the captain Luka Foy with 44 not out and Jack Thomson 13 got things back on track as they moved to 60 off 20 overs.

Nick Goodwin followed up his good bowling to also build a 30 run partnership with Foy for the 8th wicket and eventually South Canterbury comfortably passed the Metro total finishing 130-9 off their 40 overs.

A great start to the week and hopefully this will lead on to more wins throughout the week.

Day Two Report – Batting lapse costs South Canty year six side

The South Canterbury year 6 cricket team suffered its first loss of the Canterbury regional competition at the hands of Christchurch Metro Fleming in Rangiora yesterday.

Batting first, South Canterbury could muster only 111 all out off 27 overs.

Nick Goodwin’s 15 was the only score in double-figures with the exception of wides which tallied 37 to add some respectability to the score.

The South Canterbury bowlers toiled hard and had Christchurch Metro seven wickets down when they passed the target with four overs remaining.

Medium pacers Jack Thompson and McGregor Simpson took two wickets each, while off spinner Goodwin also bagged two wickets.

South Canterbury coach Ants de Joux said the bowling and fielding effort proved they could match any team as long as the batsmen showed more application to get a winning total on the board.

The team will play Canterbury Country North today.

Day Three Report – Loss for SC cricket team

The South Canterbury year 6 cricket team suffered a 55-run loss to Canterbury Country North at its regional tournament in Rangiora yesterday.

After choosing to bowl first, South Canterbury kept its opponents to 145 for seven from 40 overs with Alex Kelliher’s right-arm off spin earning him figures of three for 27 from eight overs.

The run chase never gathered any momentum and South Canterbury were skittled for just 90 in 34 overs. Opening batsman Shaun Rhodes top-scored with 25. The team play Buller today.

Day Four Report – Andrews leads the way

A superb spell of in-swing bowling from Liam Andrews led the South Canterbury year 6 cricket team to a comprehensive 69-run win over Buller yesterday.

Andrews took 6-3 from five overs, which included four maidens. He took all six wickets by bowling the batsmen, four of them happened in one over and he conceded no runs from the bat just two wides and a no ball.

His spell allowed South Canterbury to easily defend 121 all out by dismissing Buller for just 52. Luka Foy (29) and Harry Lyon (21) added 53 for the third wicket.
