Sam Porter’s 130 got Timaru to a dominant position against Star at the end of the first day at Mountainview High School.
Meanwhile James Ellwood’s 128 rescued Roncalli/Celtic from a hopeless position at nine for four.
Porter’s 130 anchored the visitors’ first innings total of 260-5 declared.
A typically resolute innings of 41 not out from Tim Mackle kept the momentum going.
Hamish Dickson was a workhorse at the bowling crease for Star.
The medium pacer bowled from one end for the entire innings finished with 4-127 from his 27 overs.
Star were unable to find a big score from one of its batsmen to push for first innings points.
An unconventional 30 from Glen Paul was the best effort.
Paul backed away and rode his luck for most of the innings, while veteran Paul Arkinstall added 27.
Star were bundled out for 150, with three wickets from Vishal Saini and Phil Watson proving crucial in allowing Timaru to enforce the follow-on.
Star ended the day two without loss, still 108 runs away from making the visitors bat again.
Ellwood rescued Roncalli/Celtic from the near-hopeless position of nine for four against Waimate.
The Englishman hit 16 fours and two sixes in his innings to help his team to an unlikely 214 all out in 47 overs.
Conor Scott (31) Liam Beck (15) and Ben de Joux (14) helped Ellwood guide the school team through to the score.
It was Jason Sew Hoy’s medium pace that did the damage for Waimate early and he finished with 3-49.
He then combined with his brother Nathan to put on 94 for the opening wicket before he was the first of two wickets for Grant Watt after making 68.
Nathan batted patiently for 72 before being run out late in the day.
An unbeaten 38 from Simon Murphy ensured the home team earned first innings points and end the day on 225-4.
Temuka earned first innings points against an under-strength Celtic at Temuka Oval.
Temuka made 207 on the back of 54 from the returning Nick Horsley.
Celtic mustered 192 thanks to an unbeaten 72 from Nick Cahill and 52 from the impressive Phil Johnston.
