A sublime century by Celtic’s Willie Wright saw his team crush Star in the second round of the modified senior cricket competition.
Batting at No.5 Wright bludgeoned the Star bowlers across the park, hitting eight sixes in his quick fire 100.
He also brought his century up with a six but was out the next ball when he missed a straight one but by then the damage was well and truly done.
It was the wicketkeeper’s first century in senior cricket and it came of 60-odd balls.
No.4 batsman Dan Laming was unlucky not to also bring up his ton, out for 90, but the pair put on a 182 run partnership to shut Star out of the game, with a total of 302.
Sam Carlaw then had Star in a spin grabbing five wickets as they struggled to 131 all out, with only three batsmen getting into the twenties.
The win gave Celtic maximum points again and comfortable lead in the competition after two rounds.
Celtic have 18 points and the next best is Star on nine, with Temuka on five, Timaru four and Pleasant Point have yet to register a point but had the bye on Saturday.
The top side automatically qualifies for the final with second and third playing off in the elimination final.
Home side Temuka edged out Star in the other senior game.
Temuka made 159-9 and Timaru finished at 152-9, seeing both sides share points under the competition rules, with Temuka getting five and Timaru four.
For the Magpies Warren Morgan made 40 and Adrian Cunningham 35, while Dillion Lees and Hayden Broker made sure their tail wagged with 20 and 29 respectively.
Dinesh De Silva and Prabodha Arthavidu grabbed three wickets each with Arthavidu grabbing the valuable wicket of Glen Drake, caught and bowled for 0.
Timarus third Sri Lankan then starred with the bat.
Batting at No.4 Supeshala Jayathilake made 75 but found little support top order support.
Brad Leonard contributed a valuable 27 batting at nine as Timaru tried to chase down the total but fell eight runs short.

Secondary School Boys 1st XI Cup
In the regional schools First XI final Roncalli proved too strong for Timaru Boys’ High School at the Celtic Sports Ground.
TBHS were bowled out for 90 in the 22nd over of the 40 over match, with Jamari Vou top scoring with 12, while extras contributed 25.
Ben Thomson and Lleyton Phillips were the pick of the bowlers with three wickets each.
Liam Cotter also executed an excellent run out to get rid of TBHS’s danger man Shaun Rooney for eight.
Roncalli then cruised past the total four down.
Opener Ed Heenan (15 ) and Ben Davenport (22 not out) saw off the opening bowlers while Toby Scannell added a quick fire 26 to see Roncalli comfortably home in the 19 over.
Roncalli will face the winner of the Mid Canterbury schools’ competition next.
