South Canterbury junior cricket teams had mixed success against Christchurch Metro opposition, last weekend, in Christchurch.

The South Canterbury Development team had the most success, against a Christchurch Metro year seven side.

Despite facing an imposing target of 204 from their 45 overs, the South Canterbury side did it in style by eight wickets.

Wyatt McAughtrie was the hero for the `green and blacks’ after blazing 137, which included four sixes. He was supported by George Morgan, who managed 45, as the visitors cantered to 204 for two.

The Primary As dug themselves out of trouble, but were slowly overhauled by their Christchurch Metro opponents.

Struggling at 15 for three, a 73-run partnership between Lawrence Darling and Matt McKenzie slowly got them back in the game.

McKenzie eventually departed, but Darling was joined by Chris Hogan, and the pair caused mayhem in the hour after lunch, adding 117 runs, in 50 minutes.

Darling fell 12 runs short of a deserved century, and the team declared at 233 for five.

The South Canterbury bowlers were loose at times, and paid for it by having their first innings total surpassed in the final over of the day.

The South Canterbury Junior `A’ side struggled to contain a powerful Christchurch Metro side in their game.

South Canterbury posted 143 for five, in their 40 overs.

William Sharp was the best of the visitors with 63, while Gabriel Evans scored 38.

Christchurch Metro amassed 225 for six in their first turn at bat. Tedd Grigg, Ben Aickman, Shaun Rooney and Matt Cochrane-Rooney each took a wicket.
